La nuit de la chauve-souris

For the 12th edition of the European Night of the bat, the Priory of Orsan takes you along to discoverer a fabulous animal. Often badly known and surrounded of myths and beliefs, the bat is a mammal not threatening but especially threatened.
Neglected during very a long time, because one did not know very well how to study it and show it to the public, the bat is better known today thanks to new technologies. The apparatuses with ultrasounds make it possible to see this animal with the ears, exactly like them.

In our areas, the bat shelter behind shutters, in the attics, the hollow of a tree or behind glass wool of insulation of the roofs. The winter, they hibernate during approximately 150 days, during which they live of their reserves. The chiropterologic fauna of the Cher department includes 17 species. At the priory of Orsan, two species were identified: the vespertilion of Daubenton and the barbastelle.
